The Stranglers were contracted to perform a concert at Surrey which was to be taped by BBC TV for its Rock Goes To College series. The band was told that the free tickets would be distributed to students and public alike. When they arrived they found that all of the tickets were given to the university and none to the public at large. Furthermore, there were a great many students selling their tickets at greatly inflated prices outside the gig. The Stranglers took the stage and allegedly swore at the audience, sang obscene songs and smashed stage equipment. Then, after only fifteen minutes, they left. The entire
